Awesomesauce Pork Bacon @ Restoran Yakiniku.

Can you guess what is this?

THIS ABOVE - was above our table at this simple neighbourhood grill restaurant - its actually a kitchen hood; sucks out all the smoke from the grill to give its customers a much more pleasant and refreshing experience with their grills.

Where's this place?

The restaurant is called Restoran Yakiniku - located somewhere in Cheras Pandan Indah; its pretty close to MRR2, and just round the corner from the famous Steven's Corner - heres the address anyways.

Restoran Yakiniku
20G, Jalan Pandan Indah 4/8
Pandan Indah, Kuala Lumpur
Contact - 03 - 4295 4833

OR just try to read my map lor ok...

See the map - very easy to go only!!!

So, last week, the #PorkGang - or at least - 10 of us - headed onto Pandan Indah to check out this place. At first, I thought it was quite difficult to find - but then suddenly, the place was just in front of us. I even had a front row parking spot. As you enter the restaurant, you'll find that the place looks really cosy, and the typical neighbourhood type of restaurants. The decor is considerably quite old-school,

The entrance statement.
From outside, it looks very traditional. Inside, you'll find there are actually a lot of Chinese elements. It is actually opened by a few Chinese fellas, who used to work in Japan.

Pet friendly - yeyyy Fatty and Ally can go 'kai kai'!!!
Kim brought along Charlie - who isnt really emo anymore (hehe last time called #emocharlie marr) - and of course, I brought along my dear furkids Fatty and Ally. Fatty was being a little emo that day - whilst Ally was just super happy to have tagged along!

The other doggie who came along too...
Cheesie brought along #KoyukiMensaGanasBitch - and mind you, Koyuki was super excited on the way there! She sat in front - on my lap somewhere along the way - right next to her kaima, the gf... But the moment we got there, she was relegated to under the chairs, underneath Fatty and Ally.

Some of the other #PorkGang members who were there...
KY, God, Kerol and ST - Haze was actually late. She stays like 5 mins from the place - but yet she got there like an hour late!

Alright enough with the people already - lets see some FOOOODD!!! Nom nom nom! =)

First, an array of drinks that we ordered... they had some very nice milkshake too!

The stove to cook on.
One main unique thing about the stove is that... your food will be cooked over charcoal - most other places uses gas cookers, or those non-stick grills. Here, your food is guaranteed to have the best flavour as it is 'charcoal-grilled'!

First - the non meat dishes first.
We had the awesome New Zealand Green Shell mussels (cost only RM 12.90), the golden mushroom (only RM 4.50), Korean kimuchi (RM 3.90), the katsu udon (RM 12.80), the kimchi fried rice as well as the RM2.30 tofu pok!!! Check out the prices in the brackets - I seriously think you cant get any of this any cheaper anywhere else!

Oh... then came the Pork Bacon.
The plate of pork bacon only costed us RM 5.90! TALK ABOUT VALUE FOR MONEY!!! The bacon was so good, and being #PorkGang - of course we had our 2nd rounds! The dipping sauce for the grilled meats was apparently a secret recipe of their own - and it really compliments the meal very much!

Apart from pork, the gang had other meats as well.
On the left is Kim's favourite - the Chicken gizzard! The Australian strip loins was also very affordable at RM 15.90 a plate - and then theres the Lamb shoulder for RM 6.90 a plate. The marination and the service offered at the restaurant was really good - and this is one place that I would definitely return soon.

Oh, check out some of their other meats too!

Pork lean meat - RM 5.90
Squid - RM 6.90
Chicken drumstick fillet - RM 5.90
Lamb leg - RM 9.90
Lamb loin - RM 12.90
Tiger prawns - RM 12.90
...ohh... and for the adventurous ones, go for the RM 3.90 pig hearts!

Hehe... #porkgang being #porkgang - we had some charsiew too!!!

The special Japanese styled char siew rice.
Topped with some special char siew sauce, egg, and some salad vegetable on the side. BEST!

Four Seasons Restaurant, CapSquare.

I used to live on Queensway in London. Back then, I would have 5 dinners a week at this favourite place of mine called the Four Seasons Restaurant - it was voted as the Best Roast Duck in Europe back in 2000 or 1999, and I think it is still as good!!!

Recently they opened a new branch in Malaysia - right here at CapSquare. Okay lah - maybe not so recent, probably 1 year + ago, but it never stopped me from going there every once in awhile to have my dosage of Four Seasons' Roast Duck!!!

Anyways, recently, together with 2 of my colleagues, we headed to KL for a little 'land scouting' session - and then in between, we slotted in a lunch at Four Seasons!

The awesomesauce roast duck.
For some reason, I think the roast duck was a little bit over-oily this time around - the taste is still good, but you just cant eat that many pieces when its so oily.

The Roast Pork.
On that day, the roast pork was really very good! The meat was soft and juicy - not too oily, unlike the roast duck; and then the skin's crispyness was just nice! Almost perfect I would say..

Fried aubergine with salted fish.
The meal would have too much of meat if it wasnt for this - I had to try out their fried brinjal / aubergine - and I thought, frying it with salted fish would be good. And fair enough - it was pretty good too. And pretty value for money as well!

I think this was fried kai lan.
Standard stuffs - simple, easy and considerably affordable.

If you think my review of the above is not good enough, how about checking out some others!

"...It was definitely the juiciest and yummiest ever roast duck, I tasted. Not sure what was the secret? Were the ducks bigger and better???, I used to ponder..."

Memoirs of a Chocoholic

"...The "siew yoke" : Tender meat, melt in mouth fatty layer and crispy skin. :) The "char siew" : Tender meat, nice "bbq" taste and not too sweet. :)"

"...Our order of half duck (Rm 25++) arrived shortly. The glistening dark brown skin says it all. The meat is so moist and tender that it crumbles nicely as you bite into it. The only downside would be the duck, appear to be a little skinny with little fats beneath the not so crispy skin...."

Food 4 Thot

"...Looks pretty good. Jeremy thinks it's delicious. The skin was ok, not as crisp as I would like, and the meat was solid. At some parts, a tad dry. Maybe my expectations was way too high...."

"...The Roast Duck was tender, not hard like some of the ones you get at other restaurants. However, I felt that there was something missing. I realised, it might be the fat. The ducks here in Malaysia aren’t as fat as those in the UK, so the meat was not as succulent..."

Pigs in a Blanket by BBQ Addicts.

This also happened last weekend.

In last weekend's super massive busy Saturday, we managed also to slot in Eyeriz's BBQ Addicts Party in the hectic schedule - mind you, this schedule involves being at Kota Damansara from 12noon til 3pm, to Genting and back between 3pm and 6pm, n then back to Genting again from 8+. This was what happened between 6pm and 8pm.

This were the perhaps not-so-exciting stuffs that were in store.
Hehehe okay lah, not exactly not-so-exciting - instead its the non-grill items, as well as chicken wings!!!!! Eyeriz says that chicken wings here is merely a side dish, a secondary item - I call it a Chelsea (2nd to Man United mar)... Clockwise from top - the salad, the watermelon salad, the chicken wings and then the pasta.

Meet the Chef - and co-founder of BBQ Addicts, Lance.
What is BBQ Addicts, you say? BBQ Addicts is a group of people who LOVE bbqs. They provide bbq-ready-stuff delivered to your doorstep, which can be also cooked in your kitchen, and the prices are lower than the raw food found in supermarkets. And it's fresher too!

As quoted from the Facebook page - "...At OUR BBQs, we grill STEAKS, LAMB CHOPS, PORK RIBS, LAMB RACKS, MUSHROOMS WITH CHEESE, PIGS IN A BLANKET, PORK and LAMB SAUSAGES, PRAWNS, well, you get the picture...."

This was just one small portion of the food available that night.
Once again - these were merely the side dishes...

The awesomemost raw meats - all marinated to perfection and vacuum packed.
Like what was mentioned above - its fresher too! I fully agree! I think there was like 40-50 kgs of meat here - to be shared amongst 40 people. OMFG! Super awesomesauce!!!

The awesomesauce French cut lamb rack - the one that we missed.
We promise to return again to try this out!!! Due to the hectic schedules, we had to give this a miss - of which we were regretting about hearing about how awesomemost it is from Kim and Horny and the rest of the gang!

I think this is called the kebab? - oh, and also a hidden Pig in a blanket.

This is how it looks like - the Double Pigs in a Blanket.
Whats the secret here? Its essentially some fresh pork sausages, topped up with mustard and some wasabi, and then wrapped with some streaky back bacon- and importantly, grilled to perfection...

Oh... dont forget, the drinks!
One thing to remember about Eyeriz's parties is this - there will always be booze. There were like 20 different bottles on the table or something - more than half of which are alcohol/spirit based. Name any particular spirit - and you know its on the table! There were plenty of Heineken and Tiger beer too in the cooler.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to the next BBQ party... count me in!

For more information on the BBQ Addicts, check out Facebook for updates, request for a price list, check out some pictures and a whole lot more!

Craft Brews, Mutiara Damansara (revisited).

Just the other day - we headed to Craft Brews for some nice Hoegaarden on tap - mind you, not many places do Hoegaarden on tap - this is one of the places that I know. The other - would be Tom, Dick & Harry's at TTDI. Anyways, I was gonna meet a college friend there - so I thought, might as well eat there too.

Hoegaarden on tap.
Happy hour rates - RM69 for 3 pints. I personally think thats a very good bargain; like how my friend Suzi would call it... "DAMN VALUEEEE!!!!!"

The Bacon and Batter.
At RM15 per portion - this is definitely the BEST dish I've tried at Craft Brews. If you know me - then you would know of my love for Sushi Tei's fried chicken skin. This deep fried bacon in batter - is MUCH BETTER than the fried chicken skin!!! PLUS - its PORK!

The Deep Fried Eggplant Chips.
We discovered this particular dish during the Craft Brews launch months ago. Back then, we loved it so much until we ordered a side dish after the buffet was finished. At RM12, this particular appetizer dish has been a 'definite' order for me - every time I come here (4 times already) - I will surely order this dish.

The Crispy Bacon Streaks.
Decided to try out something *new* and different - so we came across this crispy bacon streaks. I would say - if you like bacon as much as I do, you'll love this dish too! I know I'm beginning to sound the same for all the dishes so far - but its true! These few pork dishes are really very good!!! This dish is priced at RM14 per portion.

This is the Caramelized Roast Pork II.
There's the 1st version - which is the one sauteed with garlic. The one we ordered - is the 2nd version. This one is slightly spicy, but it absorbs a lot more taste (and also fats + oil) than the 1st version. Craft Brews' version of the Caramelized Roast Pork is definitely comparable to Vintry's (Medan Damansara) version. This is priced at RM16 per portion. All in - the 4 of us had the above appetizers + one pasta which I forgot to take picture. You'll be surprised that the portions are actually very sizeable.

Craft Brews is brought in by its mysterious founder, who simply wants to be described as a “hardcore beer lover who wants to introduce Malaysians to an entirely different range of unfiltered beer, as God intended”.
